Is Crime Good?

Darrien Brown

Crime has been a very disturbing issue in America for as long as anybody could remember, especially gun violence. Gun violence in America is a serious and ongoing problem that includes shootings, homicides, and suicides. Over the past few years, incidents like mass shootings and black on black violence have increased, leading to widespread concern and discussions about solutions. I’ve personally experienced and seen gun violence since a child, sadly seeing my friends and family pass away due to it. I don’t mean losing people that are gang-banging or in the streets but innocent lives taken from people that don’t even own guns! My first experience with gun-violence and black on black crime, was when I was 7 years old I lost my uncle, who was only 19, to gun violence. Minding his business, chilling on the porch, one of my uncle’s old friends tried to come and rob him and my uncle died in a robbery gone wrong due to senseless gun violence and black on black crime. Unfortunately I have had a lot of people around me who have lost their life very young for no reason at all, and that is why I feel such a deep strong emotion when talking about these subjects. Gun violence should matter to people in America because it affects everyone’s safety. When gun violence is high, it makes people feel scared in their neighborhoods, schools, and public places, which can impact their everyday lives and mental health. It doesn’t just harm those directly involved, it creates ripple effects that affect families, friends, and entire communities. The trauma associated with gun violence can lead to long-term emotional and psychological issues. Being aware of gun violence is important for everyone. It allows people to push for laws and changes that can make communities safer and support mental health programs. Understanding this issue helps us work together to find solutions that benefit everyone.
